Fellow Trollers,
Our last meeting was held at the Watkins Glen Elks Club on May 9th, with 10 members in attendance. Our treasurer reported a balance of $7,803.43. We had a very short meeting at which we mostly discussed the National Lake Trout Derby. We are quite a bit behind as we only had a sign up sheet for the weigh in at this meeting. This year you can enter the Seneca Challenge by paying $50 or working a shift at the National Lake Trout Derby. We normally have had plenty of workers for the weigh station but this year we have two slots left open. On Saturday the 26th we need a crew for the 11:00am – 1:00pm slot and one for 1:00pm – 3:00pm. You fish the Seneca Challenge for free entry and get credit for a club event by signing up. You can call me at 732-7479 to signup for the weigh in. My answering machine will pick it up or I will call you back as soon as I get in. Please consider filling the two empty shifts. I have enclosed the sign up sheet as it stands presently and our Keuka tournament results with this newsletter.
We also discussed the use or I should say non use of bait this year. Walt outlined that there were three kinds of bait. 1) Uncertified, which is caught and used in the same lake as it was caught. This bait may not be transported in a vehicle to the lake. 2) Certified, which comes with a receipt from the bait shop showing where the bait originated from, the date it was paid for, and the quantity of bait purchased. This receipt lasts 7 days from the date of purchase and may be used on any lake during those 7 days. 3) Commercially preserved, which is either pickled, salted, or preserved in some other way. This bait can also be used on any lake. Please make sure your bait complies with these NYSDEC standards. We can be disqualified at weigh in for breaking NYSDEC rules.
Our next tournament is on Owasco on June 10th and on the 24th we are on Cayuga. Weigh ins will be at the south end and at Dean’s Cove respectively. Chairmen for Owasco will be Russ MacDowall, Mike Burt, and Dick Allington. Our next meeting will be at the Watkins Glen Elks Club on the 13th of June at 7:30 pm. See you there or at the Lake Trout Derby!
Sincerely,
Dave
